I have a chipped tooth. My dentist offered to fix it with dental bonding. He does do some cosmetic procedures, but he’s not an official cosmetic dentist. Is it OK for him to do it or do I need to find a cosmetic dentist?

Dean,
No dentist is an official cosmetic dentist. There is no recognized specialty in cosmetic dentistry. They are all general dentists who do cosmetic procedures. It’s just that some are better than others.
Dental bonding has to be done freehand, so you’ll want someone with some skill and an artistic eye. Ask to see the dentists smile gallery. Make sure you love the results he has gotten. If you’re not thrilled with what you see, go to the mynewsmile.com website. They can recommend a great cosmetic dentist in your area.
