I am in the middle (actually, more toward the end) of a smile makeover using porcelain veneers. I’m not happy with the temporaries. They’re too yellow. I don’t like their shape. My dentist is frustrated with me and insists they’re just fine. What do you recommend I do?

Mary,
The first thing I’ll say, is to not give in. You’ll regret it the rest of your life if you do. You’re likely paying a lot of money for this makeover. You don’t need to be merely satisfied with it, you need to be completely thrilled with it. You need to walk around smiling, simply because you can’t stop. Your smile should be too beautiful to hide.
If you get these bonded on, it will be too late. He can send them back to the lab and change them as many times as it takes for him to get them right.
One of the problems you’re running up against is your dentist not only lacks empathy, but an understanding of how cosmetic dentistry works. He’s there to give YOU the smile YOU want–not the other way around.
If he refuses to cooperate, you simply cease the procedure and tell him you’ll be switching to another dentist for this particular procedure. He’s ethically bound to pass your procedure on to a better dentist.
If he doesn’t listen and you’re stuck switching, then I suggest you go onto the mynewsmile.com website and use one of the dentists they recommend. They only recommend the best cosmetic dentists in each area. You’ll be sure to get a gorgeous smile with them.
