I’m preparing an emergency preparedness notebook for my children, because they’re getting old enough to babysit and stay home alone. I’m wondering what I put down for a tooth getting knocked out.

Way to be proactive! I love the idea of an emergency notebook for children. If I were making one for my children here’s what I’d put:
- Call Mom and Dad The # is:
- Call the Dentist to let him know you’re on the way (this is important so they can be prepared to get you right back) The # is:
- Carefully pick up the tooth by the crown (the part that you see when you smile). Try not to touch the root (the part you don’t see when you smile).
- Put the tooth in a small cup of milk
- Get to the dentist
In order to have the best chance of saving the tooth, it’s ideal to get there within 30 minutes of the tooth being knocked out. The milk is important for keeping it properly moist.
