5 Things to Know about Invisalign

Unless you are one of the few lucky people with naturally straight teeth, chances are you have or do need braces at some point in your life. However, traditional metal braces might make you feel a bit more self conscious than something like Invisalign. It is a great alternative to metal braces if you want something more discreet.

5 Things You Should Know About Invisalign

5 things you should know about Invisalign…

Invisalign is a retainer-based teeth straightening system.

It uses a series of clear plastic trays instead of metal brackets and wires. An interesting fact is, the plastic is not just regular plastic. It is made of a material called SmartTrack; an FDA approved medical-grade thermoplastic that is gluten, BPA, latex, and BPS free.

Removable.

Unlike metal braces, Invisalign can be removed for eating and drinking. However, the trays MUST be worn for twenty-two hours of every single day of treatment. This ensures that your teeth will be straightened as quickly as possible. So you can show off your new smile to the world.

Comfortable.

They will be much more comfortable. Metal braces can cause sores and cuts on the inside of your mouth if you are not careful. Invisalign sits snugly against your teeth and has no sharp pieces that may cause discomfort or bleeding. The mild discomfort of your teeth actually adjusting will still be there, but Invisalign makes sure that is the only uncomfortable part you experience.

It can be used at any time.

If you qualify, it can even be used to replace existing metal braces. Switching treatment usually poses no issues and ends with the same results. You can even get Invisalign later in life, years after using metal braces, to fix any shifting that occurs over time.

You may lose weight.

Although not clinically proven, the inconvenience of removing your Invisalign trays before everything you eat and drink, and the need to brush your teeth before you replace them, may cause you to rethink snacking. This can result in some minor weight loss in some cases.

Invisalign is a wonderful way to get straight teeth, so ask your dentist if it is the right option for you. Always remember to practice a proper dental care hygiene regimen at home, and to keep up with regular professional checkups and cleanings.
