If you’re looking for a pediatric dentist in West Seneca, Embury Family Dentistry loves and welcomes children. Dr. Embury has young children, and he and our friendly staff know how to help your child enjoy their dental visit.
What Is a Pediatric Dentist?
A pediatric dentist has two or three years of post-graduate training in providing dentistry for children and patients with special needs. While he isn’t a pediatric dentist, Dr. Embury received training in dental school to provide all the dental care that most children need. But if he sees that your child has unique dental needs that require a specialist, Dr. Embury will be happy to refer you to a pediatric dentist.
Many parents appreciate the convenience of having the entire family go to the same dentist, so we treat children from ages two on up.
Your Child’s Dental Appointment
We encourage you to prepare your child for a dental visit by using simple, positive words. When your child’s primary molars erupt around age two, you can explain that they are big enough now to visit the dentist. Some parents feel that they need to prepare their children for a dental visit, but that preparation often backfires. Children sense their parents’ anxiety about the coming visit and, rather than be reassured, become anxious themselves. It’s best to treat the visit as routine.
One excellent way to help your child prepare for going to the dentist is to bring them with you when you have your dental appointment, so that they can see what it is like.
Our goal is to help your child have a positive, happy dental experience. That helps them develop a good attitude about dental care.
What to expect:
- Our friendly staff will help your child feel safe and comfortable.
- You are welcome to come into the treatment room if you want.
- Our emphasis is on prevention. We provide fluoride treatments and sealants to help prevent cavities.
We use simple words throughout the visit to explain:
- Which dental tool we will use next
- Why we are using it
- How it will feel
