I have some crooked front teeth and I’m trying to find a solution for them. I’ve been to three different dentists and they’ve all recommended different things. The one I am definitely not doing is removing my front teeth and getting dental implants. There definitely has to be a better solution.

Dear Ellie,
I’m glad you wrote. I don’t know who the dentist is that suggested you remove your teeth and replace them with dental implants, but you need to get as far away from him or her as possible. That is a horrible solution.
Likely the reason you have had so many different suggestions is because there are a few options. Which you choose will depend on your overall goals.
The first option is to actually straighten your teeth. You can do that with a couple of options. The first is traditional braces. I would really only do that if you have an extremely complicated case. It doesn’t sound like that is your situation.
The better option in that case would be getting Invisalign. Some people call them invisible braces. This is because they use clear aligners to straighten your teeth instead of the metal wires and brackets you’d get with traditional braces. The aligners truly are clear, even at a conversational distance.
The aligners have an additional bonus. They can double as teeth whitening trays. You can ask your dentist for some teeth whitening gel. Simply wear it in your aligners at a time that is convenient to you. This allows you to straighten and whiten your teeth at the same time, giving you a mini smile makeover at a fraction of the cost.
Another option for improving your smile is to get porcelain veneers. While they don’t actually straighten your teeth, they can make your teeth look straight. This is more for people who are looking for a complete smile makeover. It’s what those Hollywood celebrities go to in order to get those stunning smiles. They can change everything about your smile, including the shape, size, and color of your teeth all at the same time.
