I had a great dentist growing up. He was always gentle and I loved going. I’ve since moved to a different state after college. I had a horrible appointment with my new dentist. Absolutely horrible. I obviously didn’t go back to that dentist, but when I went to the next one I had a panic attack as soon as I got in the chair. I’ve never been afraid of the dentist before. Do you have any advice?

Amanda,
I’m sorry you had such a difficult experience. There are few things worse than a painful dental appointment. What you’ll probably need to get past this incident are a few positive experiences.
Whichever dentist you try next, you’ll want to see if he or she practices sedation dentistry. This will get you through an appointment pain free. You’ll be sleepy and probably won’t remember the appointment, but it won’t hurt.
Maybe after you try a few appointments like that, you might be willing to go to one without it. However, you may decide you like the sedation so much that you stick with that. Either way, you’ll be able to get through an appointment without fear for a while.
