I was having some pretty severe tooth pain, but didn’t have a dentist. It stopped hurting today. Does that mean it healed itself?

Carlee,
I doubt it healed itself. An infection usually spreads unless there is some intervening action. It likely means that the tissue died and you’re just not feeling it at the moment. Eventually, as it spreads, it will start hurting again…with avengence.
This is something that needs to be treated, sooner rather than later. I would consider it a dental emergency. That actually works out in your favor, because even though you do not have a dentist, there are plenty of them who are willing to see non-established patients quickly in the case of dental emergencies. Some will even see you the same day.
I’d call around and tell them what is going on. You don’t want this to spread any further. What if it gets to your brain, which is a lot closer to our teeth than people think.
